 | The
Edinburg Historical Society was founded in 1975 by Nellie Tyrrell to celebrate
the Nation's 200th birthday. At that time it was called the Bi-Centennial
Committee. It wasn't until 1990 that it became known as the Edinburg
Historical Society.

| Nellie
Tyrrell was
a retired schoolteacher from Gloversville, New York and had acquired
her interest and affection for the area from her summers spent
at the Great Sacandaga Lake. Ms. Tyrrell was a direct descendant
of Arad Copeland and became the first Town Historian and Curator
of the Nellie Tyrrell Museum. Fittingly, the Nellie Tyrrell Museum
is a former schoolhouse leased by the Town to the Society. The
building opened as the Edinburgh Town Museum in 1975, then in
1979, was named the Nellie Tyrrell Museum in honor of Miss Nellie
Tyrrell, Town Historian, and originator of the museum. |
